I am latino, from Mexico, and a PhD student on the Integrative Biology department interested in the applications of mathematics to the biological sciences, now with an emphasis on epidemiology and control of diseases.
I studied my undergraduate on applied mathematics with a minor in biology at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, close to where my hometown Tulancingo is located. Then I moved here to Corvallis to pursue my graduate studies, I was part of the department of mathematics where I finished a Masters degree and then continued to be part of the Integrative Biology department. Along my different experiences I have enjoyed and learned a lot from my interactions with people of all different backgrounds. Thus I always look to interact with colleagues and try to learn new aspects of science from all different point of views. For my science I utilize mathematical models to better understand the different mechanisms that intertwine in the spread of diseases both in wildlife (Foot and mouth disease and Tuberculosis in African Buffalo) and humans (Malaria, Influenza, etc.). |
